people i already adore.

a chance meeting became a second chance meeting became a purposeful meeting became a meeting of the minds. these 2 are extraordinary. there are no such thing as coincidences. and for that, i am eternally grateful.

trafficus interruptus!

luzinterruptus, literature vs traffic, dumbo, nyc.
from http://unurth.com/:
"luzinterruptus have brought their light-based street art from madrid to nyc; this is 800 books, each with a light attached, with the intention of replacing traffic with literature."

am doubtful this survived the snowstorm over the last 2 days, so images will have to suffice...

3 new bots in nolita.

endless gratitude to kava, who was game to get vandal-esque.

graffiti keeps me clean...
xoxo

addendum:
went back the next day to give them another look to see how they held up. happy to report 2/3 well-posted, save the odd angle (need to remember to relax, not rush) of 1 little bot...
here they are, in the light of day:

anna sui. penultimate bohemian.

"a lot of people sort of cave in to the opinion & she never does" - karen elson.
here's to the rebels. my ongoing tribute to the designers who relentlessly adhere to who they are & who defy genre, trend & critics alike. below, style.com's vid of anna sui's brilliant, cerebral, artistic & utterly luscious fall 2010 line.

11.10

and all is well.
eyes set in the next
minute
a mint of repeated
superstitions
wind-kicked
and whipped
no frenzy
to speak of
but the seconds
leaked
vanished
in a smoke ring
tinged in giggles
and secrets
crammed into
the vault
watching the ice
melt
safe inside
5 minutes
2 hours
there will be
no damage
tonight.

sick. as in dope. as in ridic.

snagged this vid one off my buddy ze's twitter.
seriously? hamilton is fearless. & considering this was shot a few years back, way ahead of the curve. uh, literally & figuratively.
(and am totally going to do a mix using the yardbirds)

sonia rykiel for h+m.

i've lived in nyc for 8 years, now, & have longingly watched the jimmy's, stella's, karl's, mcq's, viktor & rolf's, rei's, matthew's (that was a tough one to miss), etc. go by in their democratization of fashion @ retail giants. in spite of my exceeding & lustful admiration for their clothes - which, unless i win the lottery, i'll never be able to afford otherwise - i never could quite get it in myself to brave the crowds to get a piece (ok, with the exception of stella mccartney for gap kids, from which collection i got a beautiful dress for my niece julia as her x-mas/chanukah present). & to be honest, as much as i obsessively love rodarte, their line for target is meh & definitely geared toward a much younger market.

but when i heard sonia rykiel was doing her turn @ h+m, something in me clicked. so why sonia & not the others? ever since my first trip to paris some 15 years ago, i've been a not-so-closeted fan of her singular parisian style. the same way betsey johnson epitomizes an unwavering & trend-agnostic 80s-nyc-frilly-rocker-girly sensibility, sonia rykiel, to me, embodies a timeless romantic parisienne-ness that i've coveted since i first walked into her shop those many moons ago. she makes me want to pop on a beret, sip a cafe creme, stumble through a museum, make-out endlessly w/ someone french-ified, & sketch the light along the seine. in a very, very good way. & like betsey (bears repeating, nay-sayers step off), sonia rykiel's remained true to her sensibilities, trends be damned & is utterly a legend in her time.

so i hauled-ass to 34th/7th, fended-off the wicked ebayers & found a handful of pieces that will grace my wardrobe with splashy color, sassy stripes & that je ne sais quois parisienne style for years to come. i think autumn in paris is sounding really good right now...

vive la france!

point of fact, i am anti-label-in-your-face & defintiely anti-bedazzler. but the little cropped sweater & tote were trop adorable & j'adore the script, so screw it.

the black knit ruffle/flower-lapel dress has pockets, fyi. best.

rodarte f10.

fantasy confections in a league all their own.

winter digs in her heels.

shepard fairey speaks. worth watching.

& worth waiting for (his bit is 6+ mins in). if you don't admire this guy, you should.

i wish i was an mj girl.

it's all about the details, the proportions, the palette & sumptuous luxe elements.

say what you want...

...but betsey johnson rules. now & always. she knows her girl, never worries about trends, has hardly changed her prices in decades. the woman has remained true to who she is, screw the critics. campy, colorful, sassy, frothy, frilly & seriously rockin'. big love to the betsey. fyi, i will kick the ass of anyone who says otherwise.
below, a few fun looks from her fall show + the lady herself.

my stress-reliever.

the latest is blueberry-rhubarb.
fyi, i rarely eat these creations. it's the zen-like process of baking that i enjoy & need. the smell in my tiny apt & sharing w/ friends is the happy result.
below pic is (obviously) before it hits the oven & what comes out after...
